HUMANS
Lupes view humans as those without the ability to change. Elite Lupes believe that a war is coming between men and Lupes as men are weak and there is no point to perpetuating their species. They also resent humans for their delight in killing for pleasure. They have assemilated themselves into the world of men for the sake of survival but regret not being able to fulfill their true natures due to the need to keep up the guise of humanity. Humans ignore the existance of Lupes, believing them to be nothing more than fairytales and horror stories.
It it an unforgivable sin to kill a human without the Council's approval unless it's self-defense. In all matters, it is investigated thorougly. Lupes who break this rule are killed. It is also forbidden for Lupes to turn humans against their will.
However, Lupes are permitted to seek out humans and persuade them to be turned. Turning is usually done through biting or scratching. The only requirement is that the action must draw some amount of blood and the traits are passed on to the human host. Some Lupes like to spice things up by "attacking" the human, leaving lots of wounds. It's allowed so long as the human has agreed to be turned prior to the attack. Opinion changes are irrelevant. In addition, if a human is turned while engaged in a sexual act, they become "bonded" to the Lupes who turned them. They basically become the Lupes' puppet or slave, without a will of their own.
Pack mixing has thinned out the purity of the Lupes blood in many regions, leaving the packs with a variety of members from purebreeds to mixes. Purebreeds always see themselves are superior to any mixes. Though, mixed Lupes are allowed to fight for dominance and leadership. The only difference between a mix and a purebreed is that mixed Lupes cannot transform at will. They must wait for the moon or force a change through bloodlust.
Few humans are admitted into the Lupes' circle. These are known as Norns (speakers of the wolves). They are humans under protection of the pack, usually granted by a Lupes with high status. Killing a Norn calls for a Hunt, where the entire pack brings down the killer and slaughters him as they would any prey. Any human who discovers a Lupes and is not made a Norn is killed by order of the Council. Only the Hale and Fenrics are allowed to reveal themselves to humans. Other Lupes who do are severely punished by the leader of the pack and sometimes the Council, itself.
LUPES
Lupes is the classification for werewolves. In this text, Lupes originated from tribal shapeshifters, hence why they keep the name of Lupes. They can either be turned or can possess the Lupes traits at birth. Lupes must always change into wolves (known as Wolves) during the full moon or they go insane. They can change other times too, but prefer the night. Mixed Lupes must always change so long as there is a moon.
Among their talents, Lupes have great physical abilities, supernatural speeds of thought, and excell at healing powers. A problem of theirs can be their difficulty in controlling their Beast when overcome by emotion (fear, anger, love). This can often have dire results. They heal through changing forms, though the time they must stay in a form to heal completely depends on the severity of the wound. They also have a violent allergic reaction to silver. They can be killed by any means if they are unable to change and heal in time.
They can recognize each other even in human form, where they see other Lupes in their Wolf forms. Usually, the young of Lupes (no matter whether mating with a human or other Lupes) are born purebreeds. Some Lupes families have continued the line for years. In odd cases, the young may be born completely human. With mixed Lupes, there is a 50% chance that their offspring will be human. The best guarantee of having Lupes young is the mating of two purebreed Lupes.
All Lupes are under the rule of the Council and the Hale. They also have separate hierachies within their own packs. Lupes without much status are often scapegoats. By nature, Lupes are very competitive and often engage in brutal fights with one another.
Lupes can often be recognized as humans with a remarkable charismatic appeal despite age. They can be differentiated from normal wolves from the pitch of the sounds they make. Otherwise, they appear exactly the same.
LUNES
The wild child of the bunch. Lunes are arrogant, blunt, and indifferent to anything that doesn't concern them. They see themselves as Gods and superior to EVERYTHING. They also almost believe they are immortal. Lunes live for their desires. They have basic emotions similar to wolves but have trouble relating to humans.
Lunes are essentially wolves and act as such. Yet, they are trapped in human form. They have all the talents of Lupes, only enhanced. Lunes usually ignore these abilities and only call upon them when provoked as the traits become instincts. The other provocation is a danger to something the Lunes is interested in. Unlike Lupes, they have few problems controlling their Beast. They can also understand Wolves while in human form, something Lupes can't do. Their only flaw in the inability to change forms.
Lupes can also recognize Lunes and usually see them in the Wolf forms. As Wolves, Lunes appear in some shade of white with white auras. Though they cannot change, they can take on their wolf traits when they are angry. They grow fangs and claws and their eye change to amber wolf eyes.
All Lunes change into Wolves at birth (the only time they do). The mother also changes to care for her young. They stay in Wolf form for about two weeks. Then, they take on human form for the rest of their lives.
Lunes were originally the result of a Lupes mating with a wolf, something Lupes are forbidden from doing. They can mate with humans, Lupes, and wolves. But if they mate with other Lunes, either the mother and child both die or the child is still-born. The genetic codes are not compatible with their own kind. Because the Lunes gene is strongest on the mother's side, any female Lunes can produce Lunes young, no matter what the father is. Male Lunes must mate with either a wolf or a Lupes to produce Lunes young.
Normal wolves also accept Lunes and see them as Wolves. Lunes prefer spending time with wolves over their own kind. They often fight with other Lunes because they can't accept any other superiority. Lunes cannot get along with one another at all. The competition and jealousy becomes too great.
Lunes cannot turn humans.
LUPES VS. LUNES
Because the Lupes HATE Lunes, they are very rare. Most were killed off. Lupes hate them for their refusal to abide the Code, ally with any pack, or act more human around other humans. They feel Lunes endanger the species. Also, they are jealous of the Lunes' powers. Lunes are allowed to be killed without the Council's approval. Their bodies can be identified as Lunes as they become Wolves at death.
Lunes can "bond" with Lupes by biting them when they are first turned. Being "bonded" means that a Lupes is emotionally and unconditionally attached to a Lunes. They can even feel the Lunes' pain. They will defend the Lunes against all odds and will give their lives for them. In a way, it is a love far stronger than romantic love although it is often involuntary. If they are separated from the Lunes for too long, they fall into a state of shock and sometimes insanity. The Lunes in turn also shares its pain. The two can communicate telepathically though only the Lupes can send messages. Both can receive them.
Lupes consider it a fate worse than death to be "bonded" to a Lunes. GODS
These wolf gods exist in many forms and many lands. Most are not pleased with the humanity that has tainted their children and seek for the day when they may purge those who are unfit to carry the Beast. They merely seek a champion who can fulfill their plans. However, most of the gods have no wish to seek this champion out themselves. Only one has found the perfect way.
